Radio-tip: Slovene Radio in Carinthia, on the air since 21 March

Since 21 March this year a Slovene language radio service in Carinthia has been broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on private frequencies (105.5 mhz, 106.8mhz and 100.9 mhz) licensed by ORF (Austrian state radio). The operators are ORF and the Carinthian broadcasters for ethnic population groups, Radio dva and Radio Agora. The Director General of ORF, Monika Lindner, spoke of a "good solution". After all, the negotiations leading to this decision began back in December 2003 after dramatic internal turbulence (a number of staff members even went on hunger strike). The mix of programmes you can hear is pretty unique, the aim being to reach a broad public within the ethnic group, as well as a "niche public" not served by other broadcasters. Anyone keen on jazz, world music and (new) folk music – or indeed electronic music and the alternative charts  – is particularly well catered for on this frequency.
