Confederation of Political Prisoners of Slovakia

The Confederation of Political Prisoners of Slovakia (CPPS) was established in 1990 as the association of political prisoners of the communist regime. At the moment CPPS has 1.200 registered members. Since the fall of communism in 1989, about 70.000 people have been rehabilitated. CPPS aims at supporting its members with a wide scope of activities and remedies. On one hand, CPPS helps former victims of the communist regime with social and psychological support, on the other CPPS also provides material and if possible financial support to those victims in material need (as not all former political prisoners were compensated for their harm). Moreover, CPPS organises remembrance and educational activities such as seminars with educational goals. The confederation is a committed testimony of the anti-humanity of the communist ideology and communist practices ruling the Slovak people for decades. Slovenská sporiteľňa as part of Erste Bank Group considers it its responsibility to contribute to the compensation of the victims of the former communist regime. Believing in the values of democracy and in undeniable civil rights and liberties for every human being, Erste Bank Group strongly supports the activities and the objective of CPPS.
