Island No. 1(Precise) Woodstock of Thinking12 September 2008 - 20 September 2008 What does it look like, the future of dance and performance? What experiments and temptations await us? What route will we and our branch take . . . ?In a ten-day Thinking-Fest-Happening for the opening of the 2008 / 09 season, the Tanzquartier Wien would like to provide space for something visionary: conceived, set, spoken in the unknown. In the framework of a 50-hour marathon over a period of 10 days, for one hour each, 50 international choreographers, thinkers, performers, events organisers and journalists formulate their special and personal perspective on dance and performance and its future. For this period, three studios will be converted into an intense thinking, discussion, encounter and action space. Freely, genuinely and joyfully, the attempt is to be undertaken to demonstrate the diversity of current tendencies in dance and performance and to risk a prognostic look at the possible future of our branches of the arts. Undogmatically and without any limitations with regard to content, each person will choose their personal format and individual approach. There are no restrictions. Whether it is wild, wandering or erupting thinking – everything is possible. Daniel Zimmermann, the Swiss artist resident in Vienna, has been commissioned to design the Studio premises in this Island period. Using 10,000 wooden strips he has created a walk-in, sit-in installation, completely in the literal sense of a "Woodstock Lounge" for all the visitors to the ten-day series of events.
